22nd Dec - 9th Jan - The Wordy Bit!!!

Well my goal of doing a weekly diary kind fell on its arse so I think what I'll do is type a little bit here but mainly do a "photo diary" for the next few weeks. We had Paul, Jen, Alana and Michael stay with us for a week over the Christmas period, it was lovely to see them all and I think they experienced every bit of weather Pearl Point could offer, wind, sun, rain (no snow!). And when I say wind I mean tree-snapping gusts that made the canvas in the tent move around so much you couldn't sleep. We had a few gonnas through camp, the first one was massive, and not scared of us at all, Malcolm even prodded him with a stick and he just looked back at us as if to say "you got a problem?!" Disaster struck when he stole Alanas bag of shells :( She yelled after him "naughty creepy crawly!!" Which I thought was quite funny cos its the biggest 'creepy crawly' I've ever seen!!

Christmas Day, and Trish's Birthday was a lovely day, spent drinking bubbles and eating way too much good food, it's amazing what you can do when you're camping, especially Trish's home-made camp oven bread, yummy!!!!

Boxing Day was one of the nicest days so far, gorgeous sunshine and surf round at Py-oot Bay, the beach next to us, the whole of Bemm River where there, not as busy as Bondi but getting there ;) Benny caught a few waves, I managed a couple and enjoyed the sun. On our way back to camp we spotted a guy with an abalone, we went over to have a look and he'd caught quite a few so he gave us one to try, we had it with fried up with salt and lemon juice squeezed over it, yummy!!!

Malcolm wasn't feeling great on NYE so we had dinner and a couple of drinks at camp and then Benny and me headed into town to the pub, very busy (for Bemm River standards!) they had a little band, bongos, trumpet and guitar that were doing heaps of good covers (my favourite "Brown Eyed Girl, Shall-la-la-la-la" reminded me of Mooloolaba Jo!!) it was a good night, Happy New Years!!!

I mentioned the winds before but they struck again with force, snapping trees (one tree landed over our 'neighbours' tarp kitchen tent, luckily it didn't break anything) but cos there's black sand all around Pearl Point it meant the the wind whipped this up and blew it everywhere, all in the kitchen and anything left outside so we had a couple of big clean up days after the winds had died down. One day the wind was so bad at camp went in search for a sheltered spot. Benny found one in a little car park bay, closer to the ocean but sheltered by bushes, he moved the car round there and we spent the day in there, stringing up the hammock from the back of the car. It was still windy at night so rather than trying to sleep in the trailer (which is almost impossible with the canvas being blown about) we out his swag in the hammock and both slept in there, very cosy! The wind died down a out 3:30 so we came back to the trailer then, was nice to spread out in our (what-felt-like) huge bed (compared to the hammock!!)!!

One of the days we had a drive out to Malacoota, Id rung the National Parks to see when the sites next on our lists would be available, only to be told they were fully booked until the 25th Jan!!! Looked like we were staying at Pearl Point for another month but thought we'd have a look anyway :) On the way back from Malacoota we stopped at some of the other national park sites and had a bit of a look around. The camp host at Winghan Inlet told us that next year the prices were going up and it was going to be just under $40 a night over the Christmas period to camp there!!!! I couldn't get over that, it's bush camping with nothing there but a drop dunny, no showers or water or rubbish bins!!

We also had a drive around checking out the local tracks, had a bit of a look at Cann River and then up to Neville Falls, beautiful!! It was a flat rock river crossing but it went down into a waterfall and a pool at the bottom, I really want to go back on a hot day so I can go for a dip!! :)
