Thurs 5th - Rock Hopping

It was a fairly windy and overcast day but not raining so armed with the campsites home drawn *ahem, dodgy!! map we all set off in Kyles car to find the “caves”!  On the way we bumped into Perths 4x4 club, Benny had recognized a vehicle as we were driving out of the campsite cos his parents are also members of the club… we could hear them all chatting on the radio and the next thing we know we’ve found them and are in a que waiting for one of them to get out of bogged situation.  The boys were the new favourites in the groups as they were chatting to the older club members!!  Once the boys had compared vehicles and said bye to their new buddies Kyle set off up a sandy track which turned into some pretty steep rocks to show the club how its done ;) Off we all set to the cave… the beach walk was nice and then it was rock hopping all the way, I enjoyed it but cos of my dodgy ankles it was hard work, made it in the end though and Benny and Kyle explored a light spot at the end of the cave, after a breather and some photos we headed back down for lunch on the beach.  Back at the campsite it had started to rain a little and wasn’t very appealing outside so we all sat in the car for 30mins trying to decide what to do…. Start on the drink!! Then another drive out to the ‘3 sisters’… basically 3 circles on the map, which Benny told me are obviously rocks…they could have been something else??!  Some more rock climbing and nearly getting blown off the top, it was so windy!! The boys climbed up onto the 3 sisters (which were rocks, Benny was right….) but as the climb up there was kinda vertical and we didn’t want to get blown into the ocean Kel and me found a sheltered spot… the boys said the climb on the way down was easy cos they just walked into the wind and it held them up…. What happens if the wind stops??! You face plant into the rocks??!!  On the walk back down the boys needed to be boys and push rocks down the rock slab, with a burning smell as the rocks smashed down into the ocean, they were so proud of themselves pushing this huge one but I was in trouble cos I only took photos and didn’t film it…. Back at the camp I enjoyed a lovely hot shower in the dark, think the lights must have been on a timer and cos of the storm it was dark early, also the rain sounded pretty full on through the shower roof, I eventually dragged myself out though, the boys re-appeared back from the 4x4 club with some chips one of the ladies had given then, they’re shocking!! We all squeezed into the tarp tent for another night…. Including a quick dash out for Benny as river came straight through the middle of the kitchen, the boys were getting very good at digging trenches!!

Before the tarp tent was erected
