Shee Wee Poem

Lauretta set me off with these types of poem and I thought I should write one about my new discovery!! I’ve heard about SheeWees before but have never used one up until now…

Peeing in the bush
Is not quite as plush
As using a toilet that flushes
And not hiding in the bushes!

My favourite is peeing in the sand
To stop splash back from the land
Baring my bum so close to the ground
Means I need to be careful of ants
And even scratchy plants!

Now I have my SheeWee
It allows me to be free, and gives me glee
I can now pee standing up
Without having to rely on luck
To miss my feet
Without using a toilet seat!

One final thought….to make sure you don’t get caught
Check which way the wind is blowing
Before you start freely flowing!!

Thurs 19th – The Never Ending Track

Managed to get up early’ish and also managed to find the track on to the next place! We didn’t want to have breakfast at the Point Culver campspot cos of the march flies, we’d packed everything up the night before when they were asleep so in the morning we left quickly.  We had breakfast / lunch at Toolina Cove which was ontop on some cliffs, Benny spotted a shark in the waves below.  We’d stocked the fridge with beer including some coopers the night before and one of the caps had come loose in the fridge from bouncing around on the track so we had to have one for lunch ;) ….kept going on the track, it was never straight, going round each and every tree and quite bumpy so progress was slow, we were entertained with some beers though J  In the last couple of days, from Seal Creek to the highway, we covered about 300km’s offroad, averaging about 30km/h and once hit 60km/h on one straight patch but only for about 5 seconds then there was another tree to wind around!!  The red arrow on the GPS was moving very slowly…. We hit the highway and the red arrow was flying along!  We camped at one of the road side camp spots, there were quite a few people there which probably explained our guests…  Benny was enjoying a glass of port and I was having a snooze in bed when he jumped and spilled the whole glass down his pants, there was a little mouse that had climbed up his leg!!  When we both got to bed heaps of mice came out to play, they weren’t shy either, you could feel them running along your pillow, onto your head and up and down your legs… we didn’t get a huge amount of sleep that night.

Tues 17th – Wed 18th – Point Culver

Kept going along the tracks, after nearly a full day of driving we ended up on the beach at Point Culver…. It was late arvo and to be honest we weren’t exactly sure where the next track was to get out of the place any way so we found a sheltered spot in the dunes and set up camp.  Headed down with some fishing gear to check out the beach and fish… Benny caught a singray, it was frigging huge, pretty hard getting it back into the ocean!!  Back at camp we grabbed some food and then headed down to the beach for some night fishing, it was pretty cold and windy but we’d layered up and wee both enjoying some port to keep us warm!! I wasn’t really fishing but Benny handed me his rod a for a bit and I felt a bite, it took a couple of attempts but I eventually got the fish up to the beach… it was a baby mulloway, oopps!!! Note: Benny has said that his goal is to catch a mulloway before we get to Melbs, as he’s never caught one before, I’ve always joked that I’m gonna catch one before him… I was joking!!! Soo I did catch one first but it was only a baby, so we threw it back, I’ll let him catch the big one that we eat first J

We stayed the next day at Point Culver as well, mainly cos we didn’t get up until about 10ish and we really needed to be setting off before that cos we had a big drive ahead of us.  The march flies were out in force so we got to test the mossie net that fits into the awning out, with the modified Velcro and zip bits by Trish before we left J It worked pretty well.  I think Benny was disappointed though, he was making a march fly grave yard at his feet before we put the net up and was enjoying watching the ants attack and carry off the dead march flies… boys?!

Mon 16th - Isralite Bay

After saying bye to Wayne and his family, we headed along the 4x4 track to Isralite Bay.  We’d heard that there were always people there and were looking forward to hopefully meeting some more potential travelers to team up in a convoy when we headed across the Nullabor, but the whole place was deserted, it was really strange, it was obvious there had been people there recently but we didn’t see another person or car all day!!  We drove heaps that day, exploring the tracks and trying to find a good beach but there was heaps of seaweed everywhere, Benny found a campsite that was also deserted but had lots of shipwrecked stuff from the beach, including a home-made hammock from old rope and zip ties.  We camped the night there, enjoying a fire and an attempt at making a chocolate cake in the camp oven on the fire…. It was my first time at cooking like that in a camp oven and I thought the cake was pretty good but Benny is a camp oven pro and said it tasted awful and burnt!..we’ll just have to keep having goes until we get it right ;)

The track to Isralite Bay...

....was a bit wet...

...and muddy!!

Thurs 12th – Sun 15th – Seal Creek

Camping at Seal Creek, I've covered it in bullet points cos we stayed there a few days and I'm also aware that my english is not the best and feel like I'm going "and then, and then, and then" alot in this blog ;) So Seal Creek:
  • Had the worlds smelliest and fullest bush toilet!!
  • Benny had a couple of goes at fixing the fuel filter, and with his head under the bonnet a couple of other campers came over to see if they could help, one of them had the magic touch, Benny took it for a test drive and it was all good J
  • It was a good spot nature-wise.. I rescued a bird stuck in the smelly bush toilet, there was a stow-away frog; I was looking for something in the cab when it jumped down and made me jump, it made itself at home in the cab for the night!! Benny was fishing on the rocks and I had mentioned that I was scared of snakes coming out of the cracks, his response was “there wont be any snakes in the rocks” I was lying on my front, reading, when I looked up there was a snake coming out of the crack in the rock in front of me, Benny wanted to know if it had legs…. He just wanted it to be a lizard so he wasn’t wrong ;) It was definitely a snake, Benny relocated it with his fishing rod!!
  • Driving along the beach to catch up with one of Bennys old supervisors we saw a really dark patch of salmon right near the beach, unfortunately by the time he’d rigged up they were too far out…I was thinking about swimming out to round them up but then I thought about sharks and didn’t want to live up to mine and Em’s Rotto Swim name “Shark Bait”!!  We caught up with his old supervisor and there was another school of salmon, I didn’t manage to hook any but Benny handed me his rod once he had and I landed it on the beach J …Jo don’t look too closely at the photos, they’re taken after the salmon had been killed… He was a yummy breakfast with hashbrowns in  wrap!
  • We’ve got a GPS navigator thing in the car but cos of the sun its normally hard to see the screen and Benny has to use his hand as a shield so I made a cover for it, out of left over carpet and once again the glitterly pipecleaners came in handy J Benny looked a bit worried as I was making it but I knew what he was thinking and made sure you couldn’t see the pipecleaners once it was finished ;)
  • When Benny was working on the car I went on a walk along the beach, which continued into a ‘rock-hopping’ walk.  It was super windy and no-one else was around.  I had my music with me and had a great time singing at the top of my voice J

Bennys present to me... its now hanging on the rear view mirror, called Slyvia and cos that was Bennys Grandmas name its now called Nanny :)

Wed 11th – On the road again!!

Finally made it out of Esperance, the fuel filter wasn’t perfect but we wanted to get back on the road and Benny was happy to keep trying to fix it on the road..  We checked out a couple of tracks and potential camp sites but the wind was blowing in the wrong direction and the spots weren’t very sheltered.  On one of the tracks we disturbed 2 Wedgetail  Eagles on the side of the road feasting on some road kill, their wing span was huge, I’ve never seen one that close up before, they must have span at least the width of the ute, pretty impressive! No photos unfortunately.  We made it to Seal Creek Campsite, it was sheltered behind some dunes, free and still close enough to walk to the beach or have a drive and explore so we pitched the tent and decided to  chill for a few days J

Sat 7th – Sun 8th – Mon 9th – Tues 10th

Sat - The next morning on our rock there was no-one else around,  we had blue skies but it was also pretty windy.  Attempted some day fishing before we moved on, Benny even tried ballooning… he did get a pretty god bite and the line went flying out with a “ziiinnnnggg” but then it snapped so we never got to know what it was that was hooked, that’s the bit I find most frustrating with fishing! Benny reckons it was a shark that he had hooked ;) In the arvo we packed up and did the 4x4 part of the track to get a bit closer to Esperance for the morning, camping on the side of a farmers track overnight

Sun – We were up early to get to the markets, I’d rung a couple of days earlier and arranged to have a stall there, Face Painting!!  I set it all up and just had to sit there and wait for customers, it was really quiet at first, kids would see my sign but the early morning mums were obviously in a rush and just dragged their kids off saying “no not now” when they asked if they could have their faces painted, spoil sports!!  After 40 mins of sitting patiently I got my first customer and after that it was non-stop for 3 hours straight, I had kids lining up and at one point Benny was rubbing suncream into my shoulders as I was still painting kids faces!!  Benny didn’t stick around the whole time, he went to book us into a campsite for a night and try and do some work on the car…. When I called him to say I’d had enough (after making about $100!) he said he was on his way… he turned up walking… he’d started to change the fuel filter but it wasn’t going well, the car kept stalling and he’d left in a car park a couple of kms away.  I felt like a real nomad walking back to the car park carrying bags of stuff, a table and chair between us.  Eventually he got it drivable enough to get us to the camp site….

Mon / Tues – The next couple of days was pretty much filled with car stuff, a visit to the wreckers in town (very friendly) and a massive food shop to stock up, vacuum packing meat so it would last longer in the fridge etc..  The car stuff was bothering Benny, especially the fuel filter..

Fri 6th – More goodbyes – And then there was 1 ☹

All packed up and drove back into Esperance, enjoyed another pie with Kelly and Kyle and then hugs and goodbyes L We got some jobs done in town, including a new bikini for me, to cheer myself up and Benny switching his number to Telstra… One of my old bosses lives in Esperance so I gave him a call and we caught up with him after me calling England for a catch up J  We weren’t too sure where to camp as the campsite we’d checked earlier was full so we went for a drive, found a 4x4 track and came out at the coast, finding a magic little spot right on some flat rocks with the waves lapping up about 2m away from us, with a cool little water channel right next to us, later the crabs came out to play in the channel and around the car!!  We’d put the awning out to give us some better light but cos we were camping on rocks there was nothing to peg it down to, Benny found some fairly large rocks and tied the bottom of the awning legs to them.  While he was fishing I kept yelling to him that they were moving…. Im glad it wasn’t until he came back that there was a huge gust that lifted the rocks up to head height!! Luckily neither of us was in the way!!

Phone Call with a view

Afternoon kip while I was chatting away on the phone.... A voice comes out of the ute "Can you get me a drink from the fridge please" I did cos I'm lovely ;) His reply "That isnt the right flavour!!" Pffft get your own drink then!!

The rocks were a lovely spot but there were HEAPS of mossies... heres one I squished on the roof, yuk!
